I provide treatment of stress-related issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and anger in adults using biofeedback, cognitive therapy, and strength-based approaches. You will learn to develop mental, emotional, and energetic fitness to help you function optimally in challenging situations. We will also engage in the development of personal insights and skills to reduce your suffering and improve satisfaction with your life.
I will address you with honesty and empathy and will utilize a biopsychosocial model to assess your well-being and develop a treatment plan. We will use person-centered therapy supplemented with CBT, EMDR, biofeedback and coherence training. For people with high stress jobs or lives, we may focus on stress management, resilience building, and trauma recovery.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) asserts that psychological problems are partly based on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and on learned patterns of unhelpful behavior. Through CBT you can learn better ways of coping with your problems, thereby relieving your symptoms and becoming more effective in your life.
Recent trauma can be treated by talking about the stressful event to develop clarity, understanding, and resolution. EMDR is also effective in treating both recent and past trauma, it works by targeting specific traumatic memories for desensitization and reprocessing. In this process, the emotional and somatic symptoms are released, and the cognitive learning process is completed, allowing people to remember the situation without feeling it all over again.
Biofeedback and coherence training can help you regain and maintain positive emotional and energetic states, which are more conducive to happiness and health. With practice, this training can also help you maintain a higher level of focus and energy without being overly stimulated.
The biopsychosocial model also involves looking into your diet, substance use, activity levels, sleep patterns, social life and daily stressors to look for situations that may be negatively affecting your mental and physical health, and then finding ways to change and improve the situation.
Everyone is unique and no two treatment plans are the same. We will engage in a joint discovery and problem-solving process to determine what works best for you in your life situation.
Homework is part of the therapy. You will need to practice new skills and apply what we discover to your life and work in order to make significant progress. We will work to make the homework as relevant and practical as possible.
